Few teams have been in the spotlight more than the Chicago Cubs as Tuesday’s 6 p.m. trade deadline approaches. ET.

After all, the rebuilding Cubs are nowhere near contention and included several veterans who could contribute elsewhere in a playoff run and bring back prospects for a rebuilding club. That made them a natural seller with catcher Willson Contreras and outfielder Ian Happ as the main candidates for the trade.

So much for that.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that the Cubs opted not to trade Contreras and Happ before the deadline in one of the biggest surprises in the league.
