Democratic congressman from New York. Carolyn Maloney said Tuesday that he does not “believe” President Joe Biden will run for re-election in 2024.

“I don’t believe he’s running for re-election,” he said when asked if Mr Biden should run again in 2024.

He made the comments during a primary debate in Congress New York’s 12th District. One of her rivals and a longtime colleague, Rep. Jerry Nadler, said it was “too early to say” whether Mr. Biden should run again. Suraj Patel, who is challenging Maloney for a third consecutive term, said he believed Mr. Biden should run again.

Maloney’s response comes at a time when many congressional Democrats are more open about their doubts about whether the 79-year-old president should run for re-election in 2024.

The president and his aides have consistently said he plans to run in 2024.

On Tuesday, when asked whether she would support Mr. Biden if he ran in 2024, Democratic Rep. Angie Craig of Minnesota’s 2nd District told MinnPost“I would say we need new leaders in Washington up and down the ballot in the Democratic Party.”

He lined up with Democratic Congressman Dean Phillips of Minnesota’s 3rd District, who said last Thursday during a radio interview that he did not believe Mr. Biden should run.

“I believe the country would be well served by a new generation of exciting, well-prepared, dynamic Democrats coming on board,” Phillips said. WCCO-AM. “I think it’s time for a generational change … and I think most of my colleagues agree with that.”

“I think Dean Phillips and I are at an impasse and aligned on that, and I’m going to do everything in my power as a member of Congress to make sure we have a new generation of leadership,” Craig told MinnPost.

ONE CBS News poll released on July 31 had Biden’s approval rating at 58%.

Multiple polls released in July show that right now, a majority of Democrats don’t want him to run again. The New York TimesThe July 11 poll found that 64% of Democratic voters want someone else to run for the nomination. In a CNN poll As of July 27, 75% said they wanted someone other than Mr. Biden to run.
