Donald Trump has more tricks up his sleeve this week, leaving many wondering what mind game the former president is playing, especially in the Missouri Senate race.
In The Daily Beast’s latest episode Fever Dreams podcast, host Will Sommer and guest host Anthony Fisher, senior opinion writer at The Daily Beast, discuss Trump’s latest maneuver — which, according to Sommer, “will reverberate through the ages.”
Earlier this week, Trump announced his endorsement for the Missouri GOP Senate primary, but the problem was that he appeared to be endorsing two, endorsing just “Eric.” There were two candidates named Eric in the race: Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmidt and Eric Greitens, the onetime governor who resigned while under criminal investigation amid sexual assault allegations. The news threw Trumpworld into chaos.
“It’s classic Trump, and like an onion, there are many layers to it,” says Fisher. “My first thought was that it was just a simple troll and just a way to cause chaos and a relatively new way for Trump to enter the political news cycle. He’s trolling Republicans. really, it creates chaos.
“Be that as it may, someone will probably be able to claim that Trump’s support pushed them over the edge. And Trump should be flying that flag.”
Also on the podcast, Sommer reveals his thoughts behind the Alex Jones ‘documentary’ Alex’s Warand the reviews are not good.
“I saw this movie and I have to say… this movie stinks. It’s two hours. It’s bad. It’s not good,” warns Sommer.
“Alex Lee Moyer, the director, has a lot of time with Alex Jones, but not in really enlightening ways. We don’t see Alex Jones making his breakfast or really interacting with his kids or even really running his business behind the scenes. We just have a lot of Alex Jones talking about what a fake guy he is and how he likes to learn the truth.
“It stinks, guys. It’s just not good. We don’t talk to his ex-wife, who is known to be very critical of him. To me, there’s a lot of detail out there thanks to these Sandy Hook lawsuits about how his business runs all that money he’s made. It does not go into all his various legal maneuvers, the unprecedented level of legal whining and methods to avoid trial for it.
“That was the real problem with this documentary, it just seemed to lie all the time. There was really no counterbalance.”
Elsewhere in the episode, Matthew Remski, co-host of the Conspirituality podcast, explains the concept behind “conspiracy” and what it entails.
“The term comes from a really fantastic academic paper in 2011, published by a sociologist of religion named David Voas and an independent researcher named Charlotte Ward,” explains Remski.
“They coined the term as a kind of portmanteau of the union they saw between what they described as a male-dominated fascination with political cynicism and conspiracy theory and a female-dominated fascination with New Age aspirations and the coming enlightened way of life. “
In the “Fresh Hell” segment of the podcast, the hosts discuss the self-proclaimed “Queen of Canada,” Romana Didulo, and the small but very vocal segment of the Canadian population that claims to rule the land.
“This is a woman who… is an average person. He doesn’t really have a lot of rights to rights,” Sommer says.
“She issues these edicts and encourages her followers to, for example, institute the death penalty for anyone involved in giving vaccines to children.”
