On Wednesday, during an appearance on FNC’s “Special Report,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) confidently predicted that he will be re-elected as the Republican leader of the US Senate regardless of whether his party will win the majority or remain in the minority after the midterm elections in November.
McConnell told “Special Report” host Bret Baier that the challengers could “make it.”

BAYER: Senator, you are losing some of your most trusted lieutenants. Rob Portman, Pat Toomey Richard Burr. You could be looking for, as I mentioned, JD Vance, Mehmet Oz, Ted Budd.
You have Trump loyalist Republicans like Eric Schmidt, who just won in Missouri, Blake Masters in Arizona. And some of those candidates refused to say afterward that they would support you as leader.
Is this the new face of a Trumpized Republican Party? And are you the guy to take it to the Senate?
MCCONNELL: Yes.
Well, look at it this way. I have been elected eight times without opposition. If I have a rival, I don’t own this job. And there is always an election every two years for a leader. If someone wants to challenge me, let them.
BAIER: If you don’t win a majority, will you continue to be leader?
MCCONNELL: I am.
