House of Marley is once again trying to shake things up, with two new eco-friendly Bluetooth speakers.
It’s been over a decade since the audio brand named after reggae legend Bob hit the market, distinguishing itself with its ethical stance on the use of sustainable materials across its range of headphones and speakers, while generally offering excellent sound quality for the price.
The company wants to continue its eco-friendly outlook with a trio of updated party-ready versions of its popular Get Together speakers.
The new 40-watt mid-sized Get Together 2 features an improved set of four full-range drivers along with a built-in quick-charge USB-C battery that delivers 20 hours of Jamming – it looks set to rival the best party speakers.
Bluetooth 5.0 support means mobile devices can stay connected to the speaker from up to 30 meters away, while the system also features built-in Bass Boost, Acoustic and Marley Signature Sound EQ. There’s also IP65 dust and water resistance as well as a built-in microphone for making calls.
Meanwhile, the smaller Get Together 2 Mini offers 20 watts of power from two drivers and 15 hours of playback, alongside IP67 dust and water resistance, with the same 30m range and EQ options – looking good competition for the best waterproofs speakers specifically for beach use.
Both speakers use the brand’s Rewind recycled fabric for grille cloth, as well as the similarly sustainable Regrind silicone, and have a natural bamboo finish, with the devices packaged in 100% recyclable packaging. If you’re looking for one of the best Bluetooth speakers and want to make sure there’s some eco-certification in there, these look great.
The Get Together 2 will set you back £249.99 while the Get Together 2 Mini will cost £149.99 and are both available to order now in the UK from House of Marley website.
The company also today unveiled a supersized 60-watt addition to the lineup, with the Get Together 2 XL coming later this year, which promises a four-inch woofer, one-inch tweeter and 20 hours of playtime.
All three devices in the series are equipped with Multi Pair technology, allowing you to connect multiple Get Together 2 series together for synchronized playback.
Analysis: New Marley speakers could bridge the gap between sustainability and sound quality
Co-founded by Bob Marley’s son Rohan, while many tech companies often talk the talk about reducing e-waste and their impact on the environment, House of Marley has a history of walking it like it is said.
From using sustainable materials, to the company’s support for global reforestation and ocean conservation in conjunction with initiatives such as A tree Sown and Surfrider Foundationwhile this moral stance will unfortunately fall on deaf ears for many consumers, it remains refreshing to see a tech company taking steps to make a difference.
All of these environmental efforts would mean less if they came at a serious compromise on quality, but the brand’s recent track record suggests that these new speakers may be worth watching beyond their green credentials.
