Google’s latest ChromeOS update is rolling out to users this week, and one of its new features is support for switching to a dark theme, as 9to5Google mentionted. Previously hidden behind developer flags during testing, it finally made its official debut in ChromeOS 104, following the dark mode settings more commonly seen in other Google products.

On a Google suspension citing the incoming feature, the company says the new dark theme would make it easier to “read at night or in low light and save power”, which switching to a light theme changes the entire user interface and wallpaper to get things done “light and airy.” Until now, ChromeOS only included the Night Light setting in its software to help you see your screen in low light by changing the screen tint.

ChromeOS 104 also has an “auto” setting to automatically switch its color scheme between a light and dark theme depending on the time of day, with corresponding wallpaper options that can subtly change with it.

You have the options of bright, dark and automatic mode.

Here’s how to change the display theme in ChromeOS 104:

  • I’m going to you Settings
  • Choose Personalization
  • Choose Set your wallpaper and style
  • Choose Light, Dark or Auto function based on your preferences

You can also access the Wallpaper & Style settings via your home screen by tapping the touchpad with two fingers and selecting the option.
