Fox News White House Correspondent Peter Ducey pressed White House Press Secretary Karin Jean-Pierre on President Joe Biden “bragging” about gas prices at Friday’s briefing.
Doocy suggested the president is “boasting” about lowering gas prices as they continue to average more than $4 a gallon. Jean-Pierre claimed that prices have fallen at their fastest pace in over a decade.
“It’s still over $4 a gallon though, is that good?” Ducey asked.
“Do you want to talk to a nurse or a teacher or a firefighter if it doesn’t matter to them?” answered Jean-Pierre.
“Nurses, teachers and firefighters are saying ‘gas prices are only $4.11, is that great?’ push.

The press secretary said lower gas prices matter to working and middle-class families traveling in the summer. He supported the Biden administration’s work to reduce costs at the pump.

He gave credit to the president drilling of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) to release 1 million barrels of crude oil per day by September as an action taken to ease prices at the pump. Biden promised that prices would fall after announcing in late March that an average of one million barrels would be released for 180 consecutive days.
“Let me say that the changes [and] the drop that we saw at the pump per gallon doesn’t matter, I think it’s wrong, I think it’s not true, and I think it gives some breathing room for families, and it’s important,” he said.
Gas prices fell for seven straight weeks, and nearly 20 states saw the average cost of gas fall below $4 a gallon. according in a GasBuddy report. Biden supported the price drop in an Aug. 2 tweet, saying natural gas prices had fallen 83 cents since June, which he said was the fastest decline in a decade.
“The current decline in natural gas prices continues to be the fastest decline in over a decade. 83 cents down and counting from mid-June,” the president said.

The current national average price of regular natural gas is $4,113, down from an average of $4,800 last month. according to AAA. The national average cost in August 2021 was $3,190.
