Sarasota School Board Vice President Tom Edwards boasted this week that there are school board members who are “waking up” and “working from the inside” to educate kids, making the remarks ahead of the Aug. 23 primary election, as voters have a chance to overturn the school board in favor of pro-parent and pro-student conservatives.

“Here in The condition of Florida, there are the school board members who woke up,” Edwards said proudly, speaking at Wednesday’s Support Our Schools event.

“We’re here. We’re working to have your back. You need to know we have your back,” he continued, bragging about how woke school board members are working from the “inside” to advance these radical leftist agendas.

“And we work at the best strategic point because we are inside or we work from the inside. And from my point of view, I haven’t spent two years gaining credibility and gaining trust. This is a long, slow process. But I’m not the only one in the state of Florida,” Edwards continued, arguing that there are coalitions that “were created to protect.”

He continued, seemingly lamenting that too many teachers and administrators and the “machines” have accepted all the pro-student and pro-parent standards embraced by the DeSantis administration. But he said school board members like himself “don’t buy it” anymore:

The comments were made on the community forum, which was is described as an event featuring education professionals providing “an overview of the new curriculum that clearly seeks to erase our history.”

Supported by DeSantis school board member Bridget Ziegler, wife of Florida Republican Party Vice Chairman Christian Ziegler, is among those on that school board and told Breitbart News that Edwards is among those who demonize parents for voicing their frustration.

“Tom Edwards and the Radical Liberal Activists are pushing a narrative blaming parents for the heated tone at School Board meetings, claiming that indoctrination is not happening and calling frustrated parents fighting to protect their children ‘domestic terrorists,'” he said.

“He and his radical activists proclaim that they are part of the ‘moderate majority’ in an attempt to fool the public. Meanwhile, he is out there bragging about being WOKE, being strategic and working on the ‘inside’ to form Coalitions to advance his WOKE agenda,” he added.

In an interview in March with Breitbart News, Ziegler, who remained at the helm of the school board fight before the national awakening, explained that left-leaning school board members across the country adhere to a playbook to develop its radical themes. their agenda in an attempt to maintain a monopoly in the field of education.

“When you go up there and get elected, you’re automatically part of that union and you’re told your job is to support the superintendent. [It’s] not about protecting, supporting, representing taxpayers or focusing on financial management or … but very much about the absence of dissent, a lot of groupthink, you compromise,” he said.

He said later Breitbart News Saturday that “There’s a playbook and, what I think so many people have realized now, as a result of the big parent awakening after COVID, the same playbook that’s happening in Sarasota County is happening across the state and happening across the country ».

“It relies heavily on the indoctrination of local policy executives as far as professional development [given] to educators, and it ends up indoctrinating our students with a very left-wing, progressive agenda,” he continued.

The Sarasota school board race is of particular interest as it presents an opportunity for voters to flip the table. Of the five school board seats in the county, three are up, including Ziegler.

Last month, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis released a list of endorsements for school boards across the Sunshine State, casting them as people who will put students and parents first, fighting Critical Race Theory (CRT) and the radical gender ideology introduced into the classrooms. His Sarasota endorsements include Ziegler, as well as Robyn Marinelli and Timothy Enos.
