Four people were seriously injured when lightning struck just outside the White House on Thursday afternoon.

Two adult males and two adult females were are transferred to area hospitals with critical, life-threatening injuries, according to DC Fire and EMS.

The lightning struck Lafayette Park, which is directly across from the White House.

DC Fire and EMS spokesman Vito Maggiolo he said in a video statement:

At 6:52 p.m., DC Fire and EMS received a report of lightning in Lafayette Park with multiple patients. When we arrived, we found a total of four patients. There were two adult males and two adult females. All four suffered serious life-threatening injuries. We were able to treat and quickly transport all four patients and they were all transported to area hospitals.

Maggiolo also praised the U.S. Park Police and the U.S. Secret Service for their quick responses to those injured by the lightning.

“We want to note the fact that uniformed officers from both the United States Secret Service and the United States Park Police who witnessed this lightning strike, I want to thank them for immediately responding to the scene and assisting the four wounded,” concluded Maggiolo.
