President Joe Biden’s Pentagon has rejected a request by Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) to activate the National Guard to help the city deal with illegal immigration.

Last week, Bowser called on the Biden administration to activate the D.C. National Guard as she said the city is at a “tipping point” with a wave of illegal immigration caused by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s border crossers and illegal aliens in sanctuary cities run by Democrats.

According to Bowser, Abbott has sent more than 4,000 border and illegal aliens to DC since April. On Friday, a Defense Department official confirmed to CNN that the federal agency had denied Bowser’s request to activate the D.C. National Guard.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin rejected the request because the Ministry of Defense has “It is determined that providing this support will adversely affect the readiness of the DCNG and have adverse effects on the organization and members,” the official said. [Emphasis added]

Abbott invited Bowser, along with New York Mayor Eric Adams, to visit the US-Mexico border to see first-hand the record level of illegal immigration Texas must deal with as a result of Biden’s sweeping Operation Catch and Release that continues to lure thousands of border crossers and illegal aliens into the United States every day.

Most recently, Abbott said he was looking to expand the Democratic-run sanctuary cities that Texas will send border and illegal aliens to beyond just Washington, D.C. and New York City.

“We’re helping these small local communities by sending even more buses to those communities and putting these new immigrants on the buses and sending them to Washington, D.C.,” Abbott said. “And we’re looking at other cities to send them to.”
