There was uncertainty as it pertained to Aaron Rodgers’ future heading into the 2021 season — and there was uncertainty before the 2022 campaign.

However, Rodgers has put to bed any uncertainty about whether he will play the 2028 season.

With Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady turning 45 this week, Rodgers was asked if he could see himself playing until he was 45.

“No, I don’t,” Rodgers smiled as he shook his head from side to side when speaking to reporters Thursday, “but happy birthday, Tom.”

Brady is the oldest active player in the NFL, though he’s still a few years away from catching George Blanda for the oldest ever to ply his trade on the gridiron. Blanda, the late Hall of Famer who played quarterback and punter, played until he was 48.

It’s unlikely that Brady will get to Blanda, but it’s clear that Rodgers won’t get to Brady.

Rodgers will be 39 in the middle of next season, so he would have reached 45 in the 2028 season.

Exactly when Rodgers will play remains to be seen.

Having signed a three-year, $150 million extension in the offseason, Rodgers is on the Packers’ books for the foreseeable future, but has said up front that there are no plans to leave.

He has made it known that he will “definitely” finish his career playing for Green Bay, but made it clear during minicamp in June that he didn’t want to commit to any timetable.

“If you say I’m definitely going to play another two, three years and then you have a magical season that ends with a championship and you think that might be the best way to get out, I don’t want to commit to anything. ” Rodgers said in June. ‘You say, I’m only playing one more year and you’ve got a bad taste in your mouth and you still have the drive and the passion to play another year or two, I just don’t want to get pigeonholed.’

So, for now, it remains that Rodgers is focused on his age-39 season. Beyond that, who knows? It’s just not going to be there in 2028, so plan ahead Packers supporters.
