Joe Biden is once again negative for Covid, according to the White House doctor.

“The president continues to feel very well,” Dr. Kevin O’Connor said in a note Saturday.

Biden was placed back into self-isolation this week after testing positive for a rebound case of Covid last Saturday, following his initial diagnosis with the coronavirus in July.

The White House says it will continue to isolate the president “very carefully” until he records a second negative test.

The president’s last positive test was on Friday.

“His cough is almost completely gone. Temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate and oxygen saturation remain completely normal. His lungs remain clear,” Dr O’Connor said at the time.

The president will be eager to come out of seclusion, with key issues such as Nancy Pelosi’s controversial trip to Taiwan and final negotiations around the Democratic budget bill moving apace while the president has been on Covid lockdown.

Mr Biden’s Covid boomerang was the latest case of a high-profile “recovery” among those taking Paxlovid, an antiviral drug from Pfizer, after White House medical adviser Dr Anthony Fauci had a similar experience in June.

The FDA approved Paxlovid for emergency use in December.

Initial studies suggest between a and 6 percent people experience ‘recovery’-like symptoms towards the end of their initial course of Covid, between 10 and 14 days after they first tested positive for Covid. They are not considered new coronavirus infections.

According to the CDC, recovery symptoms tend to be milder and are unlikely to lead to hospitalization. The agency says there is no evidence that more Paxlovid is needed to resolve recovering cases and notes that “a brief return of symptoms may be part of the natural history” of Covid.

Officials maintain that the antiviral drug continues to work well, despite the occasional rebound.

“Paxlovid works very well in preventing serious illness, recovery or non-relapse, and that’s why he was offered it and that’s why the president took it,” said the White House’s co-ordinator for the Covid-19 response, Dr Ashish Jha , in July, when Biden first. got coronavirus
