Kevin Durant trade rumors: Pessimism deal will be done soon, teams won’t help facilitate move, per report

We’re over a month into the Kevin Durant trade sweepstakes and so far we haven’t even reached a deal. While talks are certainly ongoing, it doesn’t look like we’ll be dealing any time soon. According to Ian Begleythere is “a lot of pessimism” surrounding a Durant deal going through in the near future.

While the Brooklyn Nets have so far failed to produce an offer worthy of Durant, Begley also notes that they have struggled to find a third or fourth team to facilitate such a trade. The Nets have expressed hope throughout this process that Durant would eventually withdraw his trade request, but as of this moment, there is no evidence to suggest that he has.

With less than two months to go before training camp, the Nets have plenty of time to look for better trade offers or for circumstances around the league to change enough for a new buyer to become motivated. But right now, it looks like the Nets and Durant are in a holding pattern. The latest major development on this front was the Boston Celtics news had discussed a deal with focus around Jaylen Brown with the Nets, but those talks were apparently weeks away.

In slightly better Nets news, Begley reports that Kyrie Irving is “in a good place” with the Nets after contentious contract talks earlier in the offseason. Multiple insiders have reported that Irving wants to play for the Los Angeles Lakers, and with one year remaining on his max contract, Irving could decide to sign there next season. For now, however, Irving remains with the Nets. If Durant is traded, that could easily change.

But the longer this goes on, the more likely it is that Durant and Irving will at least start training camp with the Nets. Maybe then a trade will come. Maybe something will materialize at the deadline. But teams just haven’t come forward with offers the Nets consider worthy right now.
