Melanie Lynskey opened up about her “ridiculous” experience filming 2000’s “Coyote Ugly” in an interview published Wednesday with The Hollywood Reporter’s Rebecca Keegan.
The musical drama starred Piper Perabo as Violet, a small-town girl who moves to New York to pursue her songwriting dreams. Lynskey played a character named Gloria, Violet’s best friend from New Jersey.
Along with her “Yellowjackets” co-stars Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis and Tawny Cypress, Lynskey discussed the disturbing comments she received from some crew members with THR.
Lynskey told THR that she and her “Coyote Ugly” co-stars were put in a “regime.” Additionally, Lynskey also revealed that she wore dresses on set.
“It was ridiculous, I had already starved myself as thin as I could be for this body, and I was still [size] four,” he told the report. “It was already people who were putting a lot of Spanx on me as wardrobe staples and were very disappointed when they saw me, as the costume designer said, ‘No one told me there would be girls like you.’ “

Lynskey added that she also received “strong comments” about her body.
“Just the comments were constantly like, ‘You’re not pretty. You’re not beautiful,” the actress told THR.
Lynskey said the harsh comments didn’t end with monitoring her eating habits. During the interview, she said a costume designer once told her, “No one told me there would be girls like you.” She continued, adding that a makeup artist offered to give her “a little more jawline” while on set.
The actress also revealed the treatment of her colleagues on set. According to Lynskey, “Coyote Ugly” actor Perabo was under an intense microscope on set.
“But the check that was done on Piper [Perabo]who is one of the coolest, smartest women, just like people were talking about her body, talking about her looks, focusing on what she was eating.”
Lynskey didn’t shy away from talking about lipophobia in the entertainment industry.

After her experiences in the industry, Lynskey described feeling “very protective” of the girls playing the younger versions of the leads on the Showtime hit “Yellowjackets.”
“At the beginning of production, I emailed them all and said, ‘Whatever you need, if you need a voice, if you need someone to go to the producers for you, whatever you need,’ and they were kind of like, ‘Cool. Thanks. .” He’s fine,” he told THR.
This isn’t the first time Lynskey has been vocal about the scrutiny she’s faced during her film career. Insider’s Libby Torres reported that Lynskey opened up earlier this year about her treatment on the set of “Yellowjackets.”
In January 2021 interview with EJ Dickson of Rolling Stone, Lynskey claimed that a crew member asked if she was getting a trainer.
