During Friday’s “Overtime” segment of “Real Time,” host Bill Maher said that in Afghanistan, “terrorists are running amok. The Taliban are fully responsible and they have given up everything,” and that while he believes President Joe Biden made the right decision by leaving Afghanistan, “they had time to plan it and when they finally did it, it was like I only thought of it two days ago.” .
Maher stated, “[T]terrorists run amok. The Taliban are fully responsible and have denied everything they ever said they would do. Women have reverted to third-class citizens and are letting the terrorists back into… the center of Kabul.”
He added that while the US successfully deposed former al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, “they let him come back. The Taliban were not good partners, nor honest negotiating partners. So, look, I’m all for — I think Biden did the right thing by pulling out of Afghanistan. … And it was a difficult decision. And did it stick the landing? No. It was so disappointing because such a follow-up could not have been done more effectively. … They had time to plan it, and when they finally did it, it was like they only thought of it two days before.”
