It was something of a musical summer for me. Last weekend my kids and I went to Red Rocks Amphitheater just outside of Denver, CO and saw Father John Misty play with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. It was an incredible experience!

Yesterday afternoon, my brother and I went to The Shins here in town and watched them perform some of their best and most famous songs to a sold-out auditorium (although it’s a small enough venue that the show was intimate enough and very entertaining).

And in between all these musical adventures, I’m here destroying Wordles every day. After all, one has to keep one’s mind about them. Let’s take a look at today’s.

Today’s Wordle #413 Hint & Answer

Beep bop boot: Spoilers ahead! Spoilers ahead! I have warned you!

The hint: One of them visits the town of Patience, CO on a TV show that returns for the second half of its second season in just four days.

And the answer is. . . .

I’m pretty sure I had the luckiest possible first guess other than getting it right this time, though I didn’t really realize it when I guessed. According to Wordle Bot, while shine usually it will reduce the remaining solutions to just 120, today it reduced them to just four. It is not bad. (I also checked crane would have only reduced that number to 21 despite his statistically higher odds).

My second guess –grouts-which I guessed would eliminate some more common letters and vowels – reduced that number to just 1, though I had no idea at the time. At this point, I couldn’t think of anything at all so I just tried a word that I knew wouldn’t be right but could at least point me or get something else in green. I also wanted to try “A” so I guessed eniac and was actually a little surprised when the game accepted it.

What is one eniac you ask? Well, it’s the Electronic Arithmetic Integrator and Calculator — the first “programmable, electric general-purpose computer” according to Wikipedia. Completed in 1945, it was primarily used to calculate artillery fire patterns for the US Army Ballistic Research Laboratory. The more you know!

Once I had the ‘A’ things clicked pretty quickly. I guessed alien almost 100% sure it would be the right answer, and it was!

Go see Resident alien ASAP by the way. It’s one of the best shows on TV right now. Its star Alan Tudyk is really great and hilarious and has a great supporting cast. You can thank me later.
