It was this goal that put the rest of the league on alert. Kevin De Bruyne got through with a perfect pass that took out the entire West Ham back line and sent Haaland straight.

Again showing lightning acceleration, he latched onto the through ball and produced a clinical first-time finish for the second.

He had another good chance for a hat-trick with a header near the post and struck comedy gold in his first live interview with Sky Sports when he swore and said: “I should have been there a bit of s**t but that’s how it is.”

Told by Geoff Shreeves to watch his language, Haaland accidentally threw another slur when he apologized, saying: “Ah, sorry.”

This, combined with the departure of the West Ham fans, shows that Haaland has the potential to be one of the biggest and most colorful characters in the league.

But his performance wasn’t just about the goals and he linked the game up really well in a superb all-round display at the London Stadium.

“For Erling to score the two goals, it’s important for him and the team and for us and it’s another weapon we have now,” manager Pep Guardiola said after the game, according to the official website of Manchester City.

“But at the same time he’s not going to solve all our problems, he’s going to add something to us as a team. That’s what we’re looking for.

“Today, the two goals were balls in front of the center of the defense and we felt we could find him more.

“In the past we didn’t have a report like that and now we have it again, but at the same time guys have to put the ball in there, especially in transition.”

Next up for City is the visit of Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium, with Haaland looking to continue his good form on his debut for the champions next Saturday.
