There has been more fallout for Hockey Canada following allegations that the organization mishandled sexual assault allegations against members of the 2018 junior men’s team. Michael Brind’Amour has resigned as Hockey Canada’s board chair. according to a Saturday announcement by the organization.

Elected as Hockey Canada’s board chair in 2018, Brind’Amour released a statement regarding his decision. Brind’Amour said the change is necessary for Hockey Canada to move forward.

“I have listened carefully and carefully to Canadians’ feedback about the culture of our sport and organization, as well as our actions and leadership.” Brind’Amour said in his statement. “I understand that the actions we have taken in recent weeks are part of the solution.

“My final term ends in November 2022 and I know I don’t need to wait for a new era. Immediate action is necessary to address the significant challenges facing our organization and our sport, to achieve our Action Plan.

“I wouldn’t be able to see this renewal.”

It was recently revealed that Hockey Canada has settled a lawsuit with a woman who claims she was sexually assaulted by several members of the 2018 junior men’s team following a gala in London, Ontario. As a result of this scandal, the Canadian government has frozen funding to Hockey Canada until the organization can meet certain criteria.
