Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) voted down an amendment for President Joe Biden to develop a five-year plan for oil and gas in the Gulf of Mexico, despite previously urging the president to do so.
Before Democrats passed the Deflation Act, Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) proposed an amendment to the massive spending bill that would push the Biden administration to develop a Gulf of Mexico oil and gas project based on the March 31 letter Manchin and Kelly wrote.
“We are writing to urge you to develop and implement a new Five-Year Plan for oil and gas production in the Gulf of Mexico without delay,” the letter reads, according to Kennedy.
Speaking to the US Senate, Kennedy said his “amendment would fulfill that request and make it a directive of Congress.”
Sen. Brian Schatz (D-HI) urged a “No” vote on the amendment, arguing that it would “jeopardize the whole package.”
“All my amendment does is take Senator Manchin’s letter and Senator Kelly’s well-written, well-reasoned letter and make it a congressional directive. That’s all it does,” Kennedy concluded.
When the amendment came up for a vote, Mark Kelly delivered a “No”.

The Democratic-controlled Senate approved the massive spending package on Sunday, which is said to be aimed at reducing the deficit and curbing inflation while “extending enhanced Obamacare subsidies, spending more than $300 billion on climate change programs and allowing the Medicare to negotiate the price of drugs. ,” according to Breitbart News.
The bill passed along party lines after the moderate Manchin reached an agreement with Biden after months of resistance. Vice President Kamala Harris gave the tiebreaker.
In a statement after the vote, the chairwoman of the Republican National Committee said Democrats would face consequences in November’s midterm elections.
“Democrats will pay the price in November for raising taxes on families during a recession,” McDaniel told Breitbart News.
