At least 13 people were killed and 35 injured when a fire ripped through a nightclub in Thailand’s eastern Chonburi province early Friday, a police official said.

The cause of the fire is unknown. All the victims so far have been identified as Thai nationals, police said.

The fire at the Mountain B nightclub, about 180km southeast of the capital Bangkok, started at around 1am. local time, Wuttipong Somjai, head of a local police station, told Reuters by phone. Local television footage showed people fleeing the club and emergency workers putting out the flames and looking through the burned facility, with shoes and bottles strewn on the ground.

Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha assured the families of the victims that they would receive help from the authorities and urged entertainment venues across the country to ensure they have adequate emergency exits and security measures.
