Phoenix Mercury player Skylar Diggins-Smith reacts after a Russian court sentenced her teammate Brittney Griner to nine years in prison and a 1 million ruble fine for a drug offence.
“Nobody even wanted to play today,” Diggins-Smith said during an emotional press conference with fellow Phoenix Mercury player Diamond DeShields. Griner, who played in Russia in the off-season with the Phoenix Mercury, was arrested for possession of cannabis at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport in February.
