‘I’ll vote on policy on COVID’ — Democrats need to be careful with ‘Private health care decisions’ rhetoric

On HBO’s “Real Time” Friday, host Bill Maher argued that Democrats should be careful when they say they support people making “private health care decisions” because there are people who “will vote based on his policy COVID. I’m one of them and I don’t even have kids. It’s a medical issue. I don’t want to be dictated to. … I have to insist, don’t insist on how I handle my health.”

After Democratic Sen. Lise Smith said Republicans “want to make the most private decisions about women’s health care.” Maher replied, “And we’re all against it, I certainly am, but ‘private health care decisions’, be careful with that phrase. I read on its front page The New York Times this week, there’s a new electoral bloc, a new constituency: anti-mandates. This is mostly parents, but these are people who are not going to vote Republican or Democrat. They will vote based on the politics of COVID. I’m one of them and I don’t even have kids. It’s a medical issue. I don’t want to be dictated to. There is no such thing as “the science”, especially in medical science. You can suggest all you want, but I must insist that you do not insist on how I handle my health.”
