At least nine people were injured when a man opened fire on a crowd outside a bar in Cincinnati, Ohio early Sunday morning, according to local news and police.

The mass shooting happened downtown at about 1:30 a.m. when the suspect dropped his gun, NBC News mentionted.

Cincinnati Police Department Lt. Mike John said an officer shot the suspect, who was still firing at the scene, according to the report.

“We don’t know if that officer hit the person he fired the gun at,” John said. during a press conferencenoting that the suspect left the scene.

According to John, the victims had “injuries to the lower extremities” and were not in critical condition. They were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Security plans acquired by WLWT shows people running as shots were fired. Police said the suspect is not in custody at this time. However, John gave a vague description of the person, saying they were wearing a “white shirt and dark trousers”.

“Today’s events are completely and utterly unacceptable,” Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval said in a statement, according to the report. “Using guns to settle disputes cannot become a normal part of our culture. I want to express the city’s gratitude to the police officers on the scene. Their quick response likely saved many others from injury and prevented loss of life.”
