The artwork was designed by the artists Geoff Johns, Gary Frank, and Brad Anderson. The artwork inside of the comic book is inspired by scenes from the Vietnam War. It’s important to note that after the Vietnam War, veteran homelessness was also a prevalent issue. Today, there are still 6.1 million veterans from the Vietnam War era, showing just how important it is to highlight this significant past history. Junkyard Joe is doing just that with the help of its storyline and amazing artwork.
The Connection of the Artists to the Work
Both Johns and Frank’s have said that they were inspired by their connection to veterans in their own lives and those around them to create this work. They have reached out personally to the members of the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans and Veteran’s Aid to partner with them and get them the aid they need.
These are two smaller organizations that are in desperate need of funding in order to further their mission to help homeless veterans. By focusing their attention on these smaller organizations, Geoff Johns and the rest of the artists hope they can bring awareness to end veteran homelessness.
